I recently saw a video of an American Preacher talking to a group of students and he was teaching them about success. He used a story of a man who was held under water until he was gasping for breath then turned this into an analogy stating that when you want to succeed as much as you want to breathe then you will be successful.
I absolutely love this analogy because what it says is that if you really want something then you can absolutely go for it and achieve it. If you can imagine being held under the waves in the surf until you were desperate for breath then how hard would you fight to get your head out to breathe? How often do you take this same level of effort into achieving what you want in your life? Be that in your relationships, health and fitness, career, self worth or your financial situation.
We all say how much we would love to have a great life but most of us want someone to come along and give it to us. I suggest that waiting around for the awesome life you want to come to you will leave you with more wanting the awesome life and not much more. There is a reason that all too often Lotto winners end up broke again within a very short period of time from winning, because they may have heaps of cash but their own self worth and value hasn’t changed leaving them with the same problems and more opportunities to make mistakes.
When we decide that we are going to go after what we want like our lives depend on it then we can achieve amazing results. When you think about it, your life really does depend on how much you are willing to fight for what you want. It may not be immediately life threatening but it is life threatening none the less, just over a far longer and more painful period of time. A great friend of mine once said to me “I am not going to be sitting on my back deck with my grandchildren at 80 years of age telling them about all the things I could have done but was too scared to try” this has stuck with me for the past 10 years and I constantly think of this story when the going gets tough.
I am sure most 80, 90 and 100 year old people would love to go back in time and have just one day, week or month of their lives again so they could take some risks and GO FOR IT.
You guys are really lucky because if you are reading or watching this blog then you’re not dead yet which means there is still time to get off your butts and get out and start living your lives to the fullest.
As the old saying goes “don’t let fear stand in your way”
Go and live your life as if your life depends on it, because it does. Strive to succeed as much as you want to breathe and you will be an amazing example to those around you. You don’t need to be an astronaut or a brain surgeon you just need to live YOUR life to the fullest and love every minute.

Hi Shaun
Another great blog, I went into a bit of panic yesterday abut my new career path had the niggling doubts so went back to my focus keys, this blog was very timely. I do want to succeed as much as I want to breathe! A great analogy and one that makes you really stop and realise hey this is not going to be easy but fight tooth and nail for it, it will all be worthwhile.
